| I usually like to provide an ADOBE Acrobat file with the directions but this is so simple a prop that I think you can write downs the steps.. DIY Tip 1 - Measure twice, cut once. Measure the linear length that your "fence" needs to be. I found that 6 foot spacing between the vertical posts was good for me. Purchase sch40 1/2" pipe, it comes in 10 foot lengths.
How many 10 foot pieces of pipe do I need?
Example:
I need to surround a cemetery that is 18 feet deep by 30 feet wide. So the total linear length is 18' (right side) + 18' (left side) + 30' (front) + 30' (back) = 96'
Since you will space the posts every 6 feet you will need 96'/6'= 16 posts
Each post will be between 24" and 30" in height depending on how high you want them. I liked 30" height for each post so you will get 4 posts per 10 foot section.
16 posts * 1 (10) foot section of pipe/4 posts = 4 (10') sections of pipe. Purchase several cans of high quality flat black spray paint. You will most likely need 2 - 3 cans of paint for this much pipe. Purchase your chain, I find that you will need 6 feet to 7 feet of chain between posts. This is a personal preference so you need to determine how large a DIP between posts you like.
How much chain so you need? Lets say 6'6" of chain between posts.
Example:
16 posts * 6'6" chain/post = 104 feet of chain ( the chain comes in 125 foot lengths, I would buy an extra 10 feet just in case you want more of a DIP between posts). Purchase your pre-cut rebar at Lowes. They have 3/8" x 24" which worked great. Remember you will pound the rebar about 8" into the ground leaving about 16" above ground to slide the posts over. Do not pound rebar near underground sprinkler pipe. Purchase you skull whistles, some people paint them black to match the fence posts, some people liked them black and some people liked them white.
Now you have purchased everything you need.
